Also known as, a circular arch, the Bulls Eye arch is an attractive feature and still very popular. Decorative variations include one or more keystones in similar or contrasting materials. Varieties of bond pattern and keystone height or depth are all possible. The diameters can be quite large depending on the wall thickness. Typical domestic situations use a circle between 700mm to 1000mm diameter.
In most cases, this arch style would come bonded to a steel cavity lintel with the inner leaf fully supported. This simplifies the support for the inner wall and forms the perfect frame for the opening surround, timber frame, UPVC or stone.
Similar to the Bulls Eye is the Oval or Elliptical arch as seen opposite. It is very important to ensure that the geometry for the brickwork opening is available to those creating the frame or opening. Oval and Elliptical shapes are defined in many different ways with very similar overall dimensions but slightly different curves.
All arches supplied with a structural steel lintel come with drawings for approval and structural calculations to satisfy Building Control. More detail for other trades is available on request.
